Kingsgate Primary School

History

We want children to learn about the history of Britain and other countries.

In history lessons we teach children to ask questions, to think critically, to weigh evidence, to analyse arguments, and to start to develop their own perspective and judgement.

We help children to understand the complexity of people's lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups.

Children learn about important people from the recent and more distant past in Britain and the wider world. They listen to stories and use different sources of information to help them ask and answer questions. They learn how the past is different from the present. Older children learn about what has changed and what has stayed the same in their own area, in Britain and in other parts of the world. They learn about different aspects of history. They use different sources of information to help them investigate the past. They learn dates and historical vocabulary to describe events, people and developments.

We teach history through half termly topics such as The Ancient Egyptians, Famous Explorers, The Tudors and Famous Women throughout History.

Visitors come to school to share their expertise or experiences and children visit places of interest.
